A division bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah of the Supreme Court pulled up the legal aid counsel for appearing in the legal aid matter without preparing it.

The bench objected the saying of an advocate that it is a ‘legal aid matter’, the bench further remarked that, “What is the requirement of saying that this is a legal aid matter? You have the same responsibility like any other case. Argue on merits”.

The bench unimpressed by an advocate when the advocate tried to argue the case, the bench later on said that the advocate was not at all prepared for the case since it was a legal aid matter and also, he had not given his 100% to the said case.

“I must tell you one thing that you’ve not given you 100 percent in this case. If this would have been any regular case, you would have given. However, in such cases you must give double your efforts. I really don’t like this practice and I have always objected this. These are critical cases and you are not prepared at all”.

The bench was hearing an appeal challenging the decision of the Chhattisgarh High Court for upholding the conviction of the appellant in the murder case.
