Supreme Court In Godhra Train Burning Case: Grants Bail To 8 Convicts And Refused Bail To 4 Convicts

A division bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasihma of Supreme court of India granted bail to eight convicts who was convicted in 2002 Godhra train burning case.

The hon’ble court had sought details of convicts in this year for deciding the bail application moved by them.

The trail court had awarder the life sentence to twenty convicts and death sentenced to eleven convicts which was later overturn by Gujarat High Court.

 The Gujarat High Court in its decision of 2017 has reduced the death sentence to life imprisonment awarded to eleven convicts.

The Gujarat government had expressed strong disagreement with the said order.

It is submitted by the senior advocate that some of the convicts were now in their 60s and left the decision to the apex court that whether the death sentenced is maintainable against the eleven convicts or not.
